Would you rather: how the game works

When children and teenagers answer these questions, they work through an exciting dilemma, and in my experience they love talking about themselves while they do it. The clear either-or questions narrow down the choices, encourage reflection and so break even the thickest ice in any group. These “would you rather” questions are fun and give you something to think about at the same time.

You can print the questions on cards (just use our template below) and have everyone take turns drawing a card. Or you can answer a few questions one at a time using the inside-outside circle method, where you stand facing each other in two circles. That works like a kind of speed dating, so everyone gets to exchange a few words with everyone else. Here is a variation that involves the whole group at once: instead of “Would you rather…?”, ask the whole group “Who would rather…?” and have everyone vote by raising their hands.
