Theologian Thomas Schirrmacher talked about the effects of pornography on how children and teenagers perceive the world in a lecture at the theology faculty of Paderborn University in Germany (in German).
10 effects
- Sex is possible and good anywhere, at any time and with anyone.
- Sex has no consequences.
- Sex is a spectator sport that should happen as publicly as possible.
- Faithfulness is boring.
- Women always have to be ready for anything.
- Women are naked beings, made above all for gratification.
- Men call the shots, and everything has to go the way they want.
- Looks determine a person’s worth.
- You can put together or swap out your partner to suit your own wishes.
- Often added to this: violence or pain and sex belong together.
Taboos
Taboos have fallen and been replaced by other taboos:
Sex addiction is taboo. Porn addiction is taboo. Taboo, too, are the consequences for children’s development when, at the age of ten, for example, they watch things together in films and pictures that others wouldn’t even dare to think about. It is taboo to say that the message of women’s availability wipes out all the gains of equal rights. It is taboo to ask how many divorces go back to pornography and sex addiction, or to affairs triggered by them. Mass pornography has been shown to reduce the desire for long-term relationships and the desire to have children. But it is taboo to talk about the role that sexual moral decay plays in Germans having fewer and fewer children.
