There is one narrator. All other players receive role cards. Then the first night begins. At night, all players keep their eyes closed. The narrator calls up the different roles one by one, and the players act out their role. When it’s the werewolves’ turn, they pick a victim, who, unless protected or healed, is dead by the time the village wakes up. Once all roles have been called, the night ends and the day begins. Now players can be accused of being a werewolf. In the end, a vote decides who is convicted as a werewolf.

The convicted player dies and their role is revealed. This cycle repeats until either all werewolves or all villagers are dead. The surviving team wins.

My insider tip: One Night Ultimate Werewolf, a variant for small groups of up to 10 players. Probably the most popular game in youth ministry, and currently our favorite family game.

It works for 3 to 10 players and comes with an app that takes over the narrator’s role. A round takes less than 10 minutes.
