Among Us has pulled off something that very few games have managed so far: becoming a hit after an average release. At first, no more than 20 users played it at the same time, but at its all-time high there were 438,524 players, according to Steam Charts.
For your group, the game has two advantages: in the youth room, everyone plays on their own phone, and you look each other in the eye while you bluff. And if you can’t meet because you live far apart, school is out, or someone is home sick, you just keep playing online.
How to play
Play online or over local wifi with 4-15 players as you attempt to hold your spaceship together and return back to civilization. But beware...as there may be an alien impostor aboard!
Among Us Steam Release Trailer: Werewolf or Mafia for online youth ministry. One crewmate has been replaced by a parasitic shapeshifter. Their goal is to eliminate the rest of the crew before the ship reaches home. The Impostor will sabotage the ship, sneak through vents, deceive, and frame others to remain anonymous and kill off the crew. So, like Mafia or Werewolf for online youth ministry? That’s about right.

While everyone is fixing up the ship, no one can talk to maintain anonymity. Once a body is reported, the surviving crew will openly debate who they think The Impostor is. The Impostor’s goal is to pretend that they are a member of the crew. If The Impostor is not voted off, everyone goes back to maintaining the ship until another body is found. If The Impostor is voted off, the crew wins!
Based on the developer’s description (Innersloth).

Tips for your game
- Play privately: Create a private game and share the code only within your group. That way, no strangers can join.
- Talk to each other: In the youth room, you simply debate out loud. At an online meeting, use your usual video call and mute the mics while everyone is doing tasks.
- Chat for younger players: Anyone who is not yet old enough to consent to data processing themselves needs a parent’s permission to use Free Chat in the game. Without it, there is only Quick Chat with preset sentences. That’s enough for your group, since you’re talking to each other anyway.
