Open Mic Night
An evening with a host and self-written texts, songs, poems, devotionals or skits. The main thing is that it’s homemade and performed live! The youth leaders should lead the way as role models the first few times, and then an open mic night like this can be really enriching! You can invite your church along too! You’ll need 4 to 6 weeks to prepare.
Basta Pasta
The youth leaders cook pasta (spiral pasta and spaghetti), and the teens have to bring sauces that serve at least 4 people. Tip: To get a balance of tomato and cream sauces, hand out red and white slips of paper beforehand. The sauces should be as creative as possible.
Tandem
A youth leader and a volunteer get an 8-minute slot to put on a game, a short talk, a skit or anything else creative. The goal is to put together a varied evening with and for the teens.
Time Warp
Hand out Bible verses to groups of 4 or 5. Each group gets 15 to 20 minutes to prepare and then has to beam its Bible verse into the present day. They should be as creative as possible. Each team can earn points through rap, singing, a written piece, poetry or any other means.
Coffee with Seniors
Invite 2 or 3 older members of your church and let them share their testimony of life with Jesus. You can give them two questions to focus on: “how they decided to follow Jesus” and “how they met their spouse.” Of course, you can also give them the chance to tell their own stories.
