I believe good leaders keep growing in four core areas. For each of these areas, you’ll find questions below that are meant to challenge you to reflect and grow:

Being a servant

How can I

  1. point people who have taken a detour or gone astray in the right direction,
  2. give strength to those who are weak,
  3. give courage to those who are afraid,
  4. offer perspective where the view is blocked,
  5. help people reconnect with others,
  6. be hospitable and do good to people,

serve so that people feel valued and become more and more who Jesus sees them to be?

Being a ruler

How can I

  1. know how my authority “works” and use it wisely,
  2. stand up against injustice,
  3. build and maintain helpful structures,
  4. develop a vision and inspire people to help make it happen,
  5. heal what is broken,
  6. admit my own mistakes and ask for forgiveness,

rule so that people can be and remain the best version of themselves?

Being second

How can I

  1. live in connection with God and give him the most important role and the highest authority in everything,
  2. receive from God my vision of what our group needs right now, what should matter in it and what should happen through it,
  3. keep the question “What would Jesus do?” in mind when I make decisions,
  4. be open to God speaking to me and wanting to show me his will now,

be second so that people see God, experience him and begin to praise him?

Being a team

How can I

  1. gather people into a team and focus them on a vision,
  2. show that we need each other and that diversity means strength,
  3. live out a “culture of cheering each other on” and show appreciation,
  4. keep my expectations realistic and be patient and forgiving,
  5. dream big dreams together and discover new horizons,

be a team and build a community that carries people and moves forward together?

So many questions

Lots of questions, and probably no leader can answer all of them equally well at the same time.

But they help you see where you’re already doing well and where you have room to grow.

  • What do you discover for yourself as you go through the questions?
  • What can you be glad about?
  • What do you want to tackle? How?

Maybe it would help to talk through some (or all) of these questions with a mentor?
