Everyone pairs up, or forms teams of three in large groups. The number 1s form an inner circle and walk clockwise, while the number 2s walk around the outside in the opposite direction, like two gears. Music plays, and it’s best if the leaders dance along right away.

When the music stops, the leader calls out a pose, for example “Birdie on a perch”: partner 1 goes down on one knee, and partner 2 sits on it like a bird. The last team in position is out. That way, the circle gets smaller round by round.

At the start, go through all the poses together once. A few ideas to get you started:

  • “Birdie on a perch”: one kneels, the other sits on their knee. In a team of three, the third person scatters birdseed.
  • “Prom photo”: hold hands and smile into an invisible camera. The third person takes the picture.
  • “Gondola”: two sit with their legs stretched out, toes touching, and the third person stands in the middle and rows.
  • “Wedding”: one jumps into the other’s arms, and the third person plays the photographer or the pastor.
  • “Roller coaster”: everyone sits one behind the other as if on a roller coaster, arms up, and leans into the curves together.

The poses make this game: come up with new ones for every round, the sillier the better. All that matters is that you can clearly see whether a team is in position. With lots of teams, it’s hard to see who was last, so it’s best to stand somewhere higher up and have two or three leaders walk around as referees.
